Two-day avalanche safety course in Mestia, December
Theory on day one, companion rescue drills on day two above Tetnuldi. Certified AIARE-equivalent, 12 places only.
The Caucasus Mountaineering School is running a two-day avalanche safety course on 13-14 December, before the main season crowd arrives. Day one is classroom in Mestia: snowpack layers, slope evaluation, group management. Day two is on-snow above the Tetnuldi upper lift: beacon drill, probing, strategic shoveling.
The course is capped at twelve and already has eight bookings as of this week. Price is 480 GEL per person and includes beacon rental for anyone who does not own one.
The school's lead instructor spent eight winters as a patroller at Chamonix and holds Georgian federation guide credentials.
